Chimney Fire Help
City of Beloit, Wis. – A chimney fire is the blame for causing $ 10,000 worth of property damage to a house according to the city fire department.
Fireman said they were called just after midnight on Saturday at a home in the 3700 block of South Afton Road. When crews arrived, they said they saw smoke coming from the wall above the fireplace. The family and dog escaped safely without injury.
Drywall over the fireplace was removed, showed extensive charring on some buttons and one header, fire officials said. They said the fire was quickly extinguished. However, once a chimney fire erupts it is very important to have the chimney inspected thoroughly.
If the chimney were compromised or damaged by the fire and requires repairs then you need to see if you have the building code upgrade endorsement that would allow the chimney to be repaired at today’s building codes.
This is a very import endorsement to have and you should take a proactive measure by checking your policy right now. If you do not have the code upgrade endorsement then the repair process could be very expensive and you would be obligated to pay for the upgrades…not the insurance company!
The house is fully insured and safe for families to stay at home said fire officials.
